54f3f58b2b schifra: mark as broken
There are many build failures caused by schifra, due to upstream
changing the tarball without doing new releases. Since has been an

enough to fix it, or until we remove it.

1127b3a2ca package/shairport-sync: fix avahi dependency
shairport-sync uses mDNS to pubish its service. This task is implemented
(among others) in avahi and tinysvcmdns.

To use avahi as the mDNS backend, shairport-sync requires libavahi-client or
libdns_sd. Both will work, but libavahi-client is sufficient.

To get libavahi-client support from avahi BR2_PACKAGE_AVAHI_DAEMON and
BR2_PACKAGE_DBUS needs to be selected. Unfortunatly this is not immediately
obvious if you've not checked avahis configure file. A
BR2_PACKAGE_LIBAVAHI_CLIENT config symbol may help here for clarification,
but is not present yet.

b1dab16d40 util-linux: re-enable libmount and binaries on Microblaze
In commit 442aa88f95 ("util-linux: bump
version and revamp options"), Gustavo disabled util-linux libmount and
binaries on microblaze, as it was not building properly.

However, as mentionned in the comment, these options were disabled on
Microblaze due to "libc lacks UTIME_NOW & UTIME_COMMIT for
libmount". This was true specifically for the microblaze external
toolchain that we were using at the time. But we are no longer using
this external toolchain (which proved to be broken in many ways), and
have microblaze support in our internal backend.

I have verified that with our internal toolchain, util-linux with
libmount and the binaries enabled builds fine.

Those options are not selected by anything else in Buildroot, so
there's no other package impacted by this dependency change.

143fe5b443 rt-tests: allow building subset of tests with non-NPTL toolchains
Some architectures are still stuck with non-NPTL toolchains.
These are for example ARC, Blackfin, Xtensa etc.

Still rt-tests are very good benchmarks and it would be good to enable use of
at least selected (those that will be built) tests on those architectures.

This change makes it possible to only build subset of tests that don't require
NPTL calls.

Following tests will be built with non-NPTL toolchain:
 * signaltest
 * ptsematest
 * sigwaittest
 * svsematest
 * sendme
 * hackbench

Still it's required to have a toolchain with threads support because most of
mentioned tests use threads.

03-fix-non-nptl-buil.patch was submitted upstream:
https://www.mail-archive.com/linux-kernel@vger.kernel.org/msg762958.html
so as soon as it is accepted with the next version bump this patch should be
removed.

06d310e7a1 quota: fix static linking
The aim of this patch is to fix bug #7574, i.e fix the static linking
of the quota package. It does so by introducing a patch to the quota
build system that generalizes the use of $(LIBS), and then changes
quota.mk to use LIBS instead of LDFLAGS to link against intl and tirpc
when needed.

ff48f5ae44 quota: remove dependency on util-linux
The dependency on util-linux is only present in Config.in, and not in
quota.mk, and quota indeed builds properly without util-linux. It
could be a runtime dependency, but there is no indication that it is
the case, and I don't see why quota would run-time depend on
util-linux utilities.

Looking back at when the quota package was introduced, in one of the
preliminary patch, he following explanation was given by the original
author:

[Update: I added check for util-linux mount because
it support usrquota and grpquota mount options.]

But I still don't see why usrquota and grpquota mount options would be
the source of a dependency of the quota utilities on util-linux. Here
is what the util-linux mount man page says about those two mount
options:

   grpquota|noquota|quota|usrquota

These options are accepted but ignored. (However, quota
utilities may react to such strings in /etc/fstab.)

So indeed, the quota tools will look at /proc/mounts and see if those
options are used for certain mount points, but that doesn't create a
dependency of quota on util-linux.

Therefore, this commit gets rid of the dependency of quota on
util-linux. It allows to re-enable quota on Microblaze, since this
dependency was inherited from util-linux.

9406d4dc02 elfutils: disable for static builds
Even when doing static builds, a shared library is built. This causes a
build failure under some circumstances, for instance when building for
MIPS + uClibc + static.

After asking upstream if it would be possible to add a configure option
to not build the shared library, the answer was that doing a static
build is not a good idea. Here is a small snippet of the conversation:

"Note that fully static builds are problematic. elfutils uses dlopen to
open the EBL backends (the CPU-specific support snippets), so even if
you link statically, the final binaries are still considerably dynamic."

--target=TARGET configure for building compilers for TARGET [HOST]

So it is very much like the --target option of regular,
autoconf-based, configure scripts. Since dhcpcd is not a compiler,
passing --target is pointless. Moreover, as long as --os=linux is
passed, passing --host or --target is completely ignored by the
configure script.

395c88051e subversion: ensure --disable-debug doesn't mangle CFLAGS

http://autobuild.buildroot.net/results/652/652c3afe844e912061fbc5991e6fecad98ff6e6f/

And many more.

When --disable-debug is passed to configure, as is automatically done by the
autotools infrastructure since 822a757456 (infra: Move
--enable/--disable-debug to package/Makefile.in), the configure script will
try to strip debugging (-g) options from the C/CXXFLAGS. The logic to do so
is unfortunately buggy, so it ends up mangling options like
-mfloat-gprs=double that we use on certain PowerPC variants, breaking the
build.

Fix it by adjusting the sed regexp to be more selective in what it strips.
The package unfortunately doesn't cleanly autoreconf, so configure is
patched instead of configure.ac.

699d1e75cf package: prepare to support modules that work with Qt or Qt5
Currently, all the Qt external modules (qtuio, qjson, etc.) can only
be compiled against Qt4. However, some of them (qjson, qextserialport
at least) can compile with either Qt4 or Qt5.

Therefore, this commit adjusts the Config.in logic to make it possible
for certain modules to be selected with either Qt4 or Qt5. We use the
same approach as the one of for Python 2 vs. Python 3 modules:

 - in package/Config.in, the package Config.in files are included
either if BR2_PACKAGE_QT or BR2_PACKAGE_QT5 are enabled.

 - each individual package is then responsible for having a dependency
on either BR2_PACKAGE_QT, or BR2_PACKAGE_QT5 or both depending on
what they support. In this commit, we add a dependency on
BR2_PACKAGE_QT to all packages, since for now, they only support
   Qt4.

In particular this is required for selection of ARC ISA version.

http://autobuild.buildroot.net/results/41e/41eb1936c3afe329d1321f5a0f071db098b2fb37/

And many others.

When mp4v2 is configured with --disable-debug (which the infrastructure will
pass unless BR2_ENABLE_DEBUG is enabled) then the configure script tries to
filter out any -g* debugging flags with the following logic:

if test "$enable_debug" = "no"; then
    changequote(<<,>>)dnl
if test "$GCC" = "yes"; then
        CFLAGS=`echo "$CFLAGS" | sed -e 's/-g[^ ]*[ ]*//' -e 's/^ //' -e 's/ $//'`
    fi
if test "$GXX" = "yes"; then
        CXXFLAGS=`echo "$CXXFLAGS" | sed -e 's/-g[^ ]*[ ]*//' -e 's/^ //' -e 's/ $//'`
    fi
    changequote([,])dnl
fi

This logic is unfortunately buggy as it also strips up arguments like
-mfloat-gprs=double breaking the build when the powerpc SPE variants are
-used.

Instead of fixing the sed invocation we can simply pass --enable-debug to
configure as the debugging flag is not used for anything else.

c7c0ca288d nss-mdns: unbreak after e1eba3d97 (system/skeleton: make nsswitch install conditional)
Fixes http://autobuild.buildroot.net/results/481/4819cacd4b7015ef2bfaaf1b3fc9ba33f9194315/

After commit e1eba3d97, the skeleton no longer has a /etc/nsswitch.conf by
the time nss-mdns gets built, so the sed invocation fails.

Work around it by installing the glibc one early if not already available
in the skeleton.

If we want to do further modification of nsswitch.conf in the future (for
E.G. samba), then we should probably introduce some hooks to
GLIBC_COPY_NSSWITCH_FILE instead.

So, if BR2_ENABLE_DEBUG is selected, then we have to force lame to be
built without debug symbols for Aarch64 and MIPS because these
architectures don't have those macros defined.

cb2e8c5d9c binutils: now depends on wchar
binutils starting at least from 2.23 when build for target require
uClibc configured with UCLIBC_HAS_WCHAR otherwise:

read.o: In function `read_symbol_name':
read.c:(.text+0x3634): undefined reference to `mbstowcs'
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

because "mbstowcs" is not available in the C library.

Even though we're not yet using 2.23.2 as the default version, we will
probably do it in the near future, so this commit doesn't bother with
making the wchar dependency version-specific, and applies it to the
binutils package as a whole.

0f8cba1b5e trinity: Bump version to fix a PowerPC build failure
Some PowerPC toolchains have old Linux headers which don't define the
KVM_CREATE_SPAPR_TCE and KVM_ALLOCATE_RMA macros. To workaround this
problem we enclose the lines which use these macros into ifdef blocks.

This fix has been merged upstream so we bump the version to fix the
problem in Buildroot as well.

286e4d9434 sysv init scripts: use symbolic names in trap command
Not really necessary(*), but checkbashisms complains about
"trap with signal numbers".

(*) Quoting man 1p trap:
   trap [action condition...]
   [...]
The condition can be EXIT, 0 (equivalent to EXIT),
or a signal specified using a symbolic name, without the SIG prefix
   [...]
XSI-conformant systems also allow numeric signal numbers[...]

Only one file is affected by this commit, and it should be checked
whether it really needs to ignore SIGTERM/SIGHUP or if the trap commands
can simply be removed:

5065d475fb sysv init scripts: replace &>/dev/null redirection
"<command> &>/dev/null" is supposed to redirect all output to /dev/null.

However, in shells that don't support it (dash, ash without bash extensions),
a command like "echo a &>/dev/null" is interpreted as

(a) "echo a" in background
(b) write nothing to /dev/null (redirect <empty command> to /dev/null)

This commit replaces "&>..." with ">/dev/null 2>&1".

2113ed46b2 sysv init scripts: remove gettext invocations
$"str" is supposed to translate str (depending on the current locale).
In ash/dash/..., it cannot be expanded, so commands like

 echo $"Usage: $0 start|stop"

are printed as '$Usage: SCRIPT start|stop' in [d]ash,
and as 'Usage: SCRIPT start|stop' in bash.

This patch removes the '$' in front of '"'.

[Thomas:
 - it's not only alsamixer, but also several other alsa-utils
utilities, like aplay or arecord, which optionally depend on
gettext. Therefore, the patch was changed to have the optional
gettext dependency apply to the entire package.
 - in addition, we don't need gettext when locales are enabled:
alsa-utils builds perfectly fine with a toolchain having locales
enabled even without gettext. So all we really want is to have
gettext built before alsa-utils, if gettext is enabled.]

cfb4d2451b libevent: Use github call & fix patch
We want to use the github helper since there is not a specific releases
tarball that we can download, as specified in the manual.

This tarball is generated from the tag, which doesn't contains the
autotools generated files, we then need to use AUTORECONF.

We want to use the github helper anyway as the current URL use an old
GitHub feature which was called 'Download' where you could upload files
along your repositories, theses files were not related to your tags.

This features has been replaced with the 'Release' option where you can
create a release from a git tag. But these tarball are generated from
the sources and they don't contains all the generated autotools file.

Since the old URL scheme can be deprecated at any time, we want to
switch to the new URL scheme, which in the case of libevent, implies
    having to do an AUTORECONF.

The patch that was already present is updated to apply against
Makefile.am instead of Makefile.in

The second patch is backported from upstream to remove the use of
$(top_src_dirs) which makes current autotools error out.

f97702e8f4 liblog4c-localtime: fix build issue on uClibc with --enable-debug
When --enable-debug is used, liblog4c-localtime wants to use
<mcheck.h> if __GLIBC__ is defined. Unfortunately, uClibc defines
__GLIBC__ but does not provides mcheck.h. Therefore, this commit
introduces a patch (0003) that checks if mcheck.h is available or not.

However, this patch requires autoreconfiguring the package, which is
currently broken. Therefore, the two other patches (0004 and 0005) are
meant to fix autoreconfiguration of the package.

68e8a10f97 aircrack-ng: don't use -ldl in a static lib configuration
This commit gets rid of the -ldl flag used when
BR2_PREFER_STATIC_LIB=y. First because it does not make sense: when
you use a pure static library configuration, you don't have shared
library support, so you don't have libdl.

The occurences of -ldl were added in commit
1141d99aae ("aircrack-ng: fix static
build") and commit bed1490d0f
("aircrack-ng: fix statically linked build"), at a time were sqlite
indeed was linked against libdl even in static library
configurations. But this is no longer the case since
bd56cd6b4c ("sqlite: Disable dynamic
extention if static library is seleted").

This means we can now get rid of the -ldl flag when building
aircrack-ng, which means it can build properly in a pure static
library configuration.

bcb835b042 system/inittab: update to fix bug #7442
Update inittabs (skeleton/busybox & sysvinit) to remove the trailing
REMOUNT_ROOTFS_RW comment used as magic string in system/system.mk to
enable/disable remounting the root filesystem rw or not since it affects
sysvinit in doing so properly as reported in bug #7442.

Instead update the sed expressions to match clean non-commented strings
by searching for "-o remount,rw /" and checking that's the end of the
line as well to avoid affecting possibly other remounts that a user can
have in a custom inittab.

Long-term the startup block of inittab should just move to a S00sysinit
script or similar so that rcS can pick it up directly.

2081534cd4 intltool: fix build issues
This commit fixes various build failures caused by the host-perl
series.

Currently, the variables PERL and PERL5LIB are available only during
the configure step of host-intltool, but they are also needed when
running host-intltool, in all packages that depend on
host-intltool. Without them, host-intltool cannot work as it doesn't
find the libxml-parser-perl module installed in
$(HOST_DIR)/usr/lib/perl.

This commit therefore makes the PERL and PERL5LIB variables global, so
that all packages can access them.

8201c362d7 infra/pkg-kconfig: fix saving the config file
When saving (aka updating) the configuration file of a kconfig package,
a subsequent call to "make" would rebuild the package, even though the
configuration did not actually change.

It took quite a while to understand why. But the reason is so simple and
obvious, when you think about it:

  - $(@D)/.config depends on the config file $(BUSYBOX_CONFIG_FILE)
  - busybox-update-config then copies $(@D)/.config back to the config
    file $(BUSYBOX_CONFIG_FILE)
  - so the config file is newer than $(@D)/.config

So, in the next run, pkg-kconfig believes that it has to rebuild
busybox. Bummer... :-/

So, the fix is very trivial, and just requires asking "cp" to preserve
timestamps, so the dependency does not kick in at the next run.

879255ad1e ngrep: update include path of libpcap so bpf.h can be found
The libpcap headers have moved from /usr/include to /usr/include/pcap,
although /usr/include/pcap.h still exists for backwards-compatibility
(but is a stub that simply includes pcap/pcap.h).
The ngrep package tries to find bpf.h based on the include statements in
pcap.h. If we point ngrep to /usr/include/pcap.h, bpf.h will not be
found and the associated functionality will not work.

The fix is to pass the new include path to the ngrep configure step.

aa500a4952 bandwidthd: Version bump to handle indirect deps properly
Thanks to Romain Naour, Baruch Siach and Thomas Petazzoni, I've
solved the build issues in certain cases for bandwidthd.

The issue was that libpcap and libpng would depend on other libraries
and upon testing for pcap/libpng the tests would fail due to not
being able to find the other libraries.

Bandwidthd's configure script now uses pkg-config for libpng
and pcap-config for libpcap. pcap-config's path is specified
in configure's arguments.

Some other tweaks have been made including the layout and flow
of configure.ac is a bit more logical, and the handling of postgres
and sqlite has been tweaked. Finally, the test for X.Org has been
removed.

[Thomas: re-add Nathaniel SoB line, which was misplaced in the commit
log, and therefore dropped when applying the patch.]

3b4ec0c6a8 avahi: do not install S05avahi-setup.sh in systemd setup
The AVAHI_INSTALL_AUTOIPD was unconditionally installing
S05avahi-setup.sh to /etc/init.d/, even in systemd
configurations. Therefore, this commit:

 * Moves the installation of S05avahi-setup.sh to a separate variable
   called AVAHI_INSTALL_AUTOIPD_INIT_SYSV.

 * Makes sure to use 'install -D' and a full destination path when
   installing S05avahi-setup.sh.

 * Moves the definition of AVAHI_INSTALL_AUTOIPD inside the
BR2_PACKAGE_AVAHI_AUTOIPD conditional, so that both the variable
definition and its addition to AVAHI_POST_INSTALL_TARGET_HOOKS are
   enclosed in the conditional.

 * Moves the S50avahi-daemon installation from AVAHI_INSTALL_INIT_SYSV
   to AVAHI_INSTALL_DAEMON_INIT_SYSV.

 * Uses 'install -D' to install S50avahi-daemon.

 * Adds a AVAHI_INSTALL_INIT_SYSV definition which calls both
   AVAHI_INSTALL_AUTOIPD_INIT_SYSV and AVAHI_INSTALL_DAEMON_INIT_SYSV.

Note: in a systemd configuration, there is no provision to do what
S05avahi-setup.sh is doing for sysv init configurations. Maybe this is
something that our systemd people should have a look at.

6c94777142 avahi: remove useless 'mkdir -p' in AVAHI_INSTALL_INIT_SYSTEMD
In AVAHI_INSTALL_INIT_SYSTEMD, since we're using 'install -D' to
install /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/avahi.conf in $(TARGET_DIR), there's no
need to have a 'mkdir -p' before that, since 'install -D' creates the
directories as needed.

9b41c827a2 package/avahi: use upstream-provided systemd files
When using the buildroot-provided avahi-daemon.service file, bootup never
finishes, because multi-user.target is waiting for avahi-daemon to exit,
which is caused by "Type=oneshot" (in avahi-daemon.service).

Upstream's systemd files get already installed to /lib/systemd.
They're not an exact copy of S50avahi-daemon, but work flawlessly,
so use these units:

* avahi-daemon.service, auto-enabled (ln -fs in AVAHI_INSTALL_INIT_SYSTEMD)
* avahi-daemon.socket,
  not auto-enabled, but a dependency of avahi-daemon.service
* avahi-dnsconfd.service, auto-enabled

[Thomas: use simpler absolute paths for the symbolic links instead of
relative paths. Suggested by Maxime Hadjinlian.]

267dc1c159 modplugtools: Added package
This installs the 'modplug123' command line tool to play tracker music
files (MOD, S3M, XM etc.) using libmodplug.

The modplugtools package can build two players: modplugplay that plays
directly via OSS and modplug123 that plays via libao. Since modplugplay
won't work without OSS support and modern kernels are likely to have no
OSS or OSS emulation, we build only modplug123.

If you have a system without ALSA support for some reason, you can
still use modplug123 to play over OSS via libao.

ffa33dc552 package/.mk files: remove --localstatedir=/var from autotools packages
Remove --localstatedir=/var from all autotools packages where it is no longer
needed.

Also remove --localstatedir=/var/lib/dhcp from package dhcp. localstatedir is
used by dhcp to set the default directory for the leases files. This can also
be done by setting --with-*-lease-file=/var/lib/dhcp/*, which is done in
dhcp.mk.

A custom --localstatedir is left in:
* proftpd.mk
* mysql.mk

This is safe to do:
One of the good thing with autoconf is that if you pass:
        --localstatedir=/var ... --localstatedir=/var/something
Then /var/something will be used. So, we can set --localstatedir=/var
by default in the infrastructure, and still have certain packages doing
weird things override it. [Thanks to Thomas Petazzoni]

b3ed7c2d68 package/pkg-autotools.mk: set --localstatedir=/var by default
`localstatedir` is a common autoconf variable like prefix and sysconfdir. At
this time 25 autotools and one generic package uses this Makefile variable. 22
of the autotools packages use --localstatedir=/var, the remaining use custom
settings.

Setting `localstatedir` to /var is consistent with the Filesystem Hierarchy
Standard (FHS). So it's time to move it as a common definition in the
autotools infrastructure.
