2081534cd4 intltool: fix build issues
This commit fixes various build failures caused by the host-perl
series.

Currently, the variables PERL and PERL5LIB are available only during
the configure step of host-intltool, but they are also needed when
running host-intltool, in all packages that depend on
host-intltool. Without them, host-intltool cannot work as it doesn't
find the libxml-parser-perl module installed in
$(HOST_DIR)/usr/lib/perl.

This commit therefore makes the PERL and PERL5LIB variables global, so
that all packages can access them.

2f04a4ad6c package/eudev: tweak initscript
Make the udev initscript trigger in a coherent way, i.e. first set
subsystems, then device and then let the whole thing settle.
Otherwise for usb_modeswitch udev rules they never kick in since the
storage aspect (device) gets claimed first and the switch ignored.
Also set the settle timeout to a smaller value than the default
120 seconds to avoid stalling too much.

8201c362d7 infra/pkg-kconfig: fix saving the config file
When saving (aka updating) the configuration file of a kconfig package,
a subsequent call to "make" would rebuild the package, even though the
configuration did not actually change.

It took quite a while to understand why. But the reason is so simple and
obvious, when you think about it:

  - $(@D)/.config depends on the config file $(BUSYBOX_CONFIG_FILE)
  - busybox-update-config then copies $(@D)/.config back to the config
    file $(BUSYBOX_CONFIG_FILE)
  - so the config file is newer than $(@D)/.config

So, in the next run, pkg-kconfig believes that it has to rebuild
busybox. Bummer... :-/

So, the fix is very trivial, and just requires asking "cp" to preserve
timestamps, so the dependency does not kick in at the next run.

879255ad1e ngrep: update include path of libpcap so bpf.h can be found
The libpcap headers have moved from /usr/include to /usr/include/pcap,
although /usr/include/pcap.h still exists for backwards-compatibility
(but is a stub that simply includes pcap/pcap.h).
The ngrep package tries to find bpf.h based on the include statements in
pcap.h. If we point ngrep to /usr/include/pcap.h, bpf.h will not be
found and the associated functionality will not work.

The fix is to pass the new include path to the ngrep configure step.

aa500a4952 bandwidthd: Version bump to handle indirect deps properly
Thanks to Romain Naour, Baruch Siach and Thomas Petazzoni, I've
solved the build issues in certain cases for bandwidthd.

The issue was that libpcap and libpng would depend on other libraries
and upon testing for pcap/libpng the tests would fail due to not
being able to find the other libraries.

Bandwidthd's configure script now uses pkg-config for libpng
and pcap-config for libpcap. pcap-config's path is specified
in configure's arguments.

Some other tweaks have been made including the layout and flow
of configure.ac is a bit more logical, and the handling of postgres
and sqlite has been tweaked. Finally, the test for X.Org has been
removed.

[Thomas: re-add Nathaniel SoB line, which was misplaced in the commit
log, and therefore dropped when applying the patch.]

3b4ec0c6a8 avahi: do not install S05avahi-setup.sh in systemd setup
The AVAHI_INSTALL_AUTOIPD was unconditionally installing
S05avahi-setup.sh to /etc/init.d/, even in systemd
configurations. Therefore, this commit:

 * Moves the installation of S05avahi-setup.sh to a separate variable
   called AVAHI_INSTALL_AUTOIPD_INIT_SYSV.

 * Makes sure to use 'install -D' and a full destination path when
   installing S05avahi-setup.sh.

 * Moves the definition of AVAHI_INSTALL_AUTOIPD inside the
   BR2_PACKAGE_AVAHI_AUTOIPD conditional, so that both the variable
   definition and its addition to AVAHI_POST_INSTALL_TARGET_HOOKS are
   enclosed in the conditional.

 * Moves the S50avahi-daemon installation from AVAHI_INSTALL_INIT_SYSV
   to AVAHI_INSTALL_DAEMON_INIT_SYSV.

 * Uses 'install -D' to install S50avahi-daemon.

 * Adds a AVAHI_INSTALL_INIT_SYSV definition which calls both
   AVAHI_INSTALL_AUTOIPD_INIT_SYSV and AVAHI_INSTALL_DAEMON_INIT_SYSV.

Note: in a systemd configuration, there is no provision to do what
S05avahi-setup.sh is doing for sysv init configurations. Maybe this is
something that our systemd people should have a look at.

9b41c827a2 package/avahi: use upstream-provided systemd files
When using the buildroot-provided avahi-daemon.service file, bootup never
finishes, because multi-user.target is waiting for avahi-daemon to exit,
which is caused by "Type=oneshot" (in avahi-daemon.service).

Upstream's systemd files get already installed to /lib/systemd.
They're not an exact copy of S50avahi-daemon, but work flawlessly,
so use these units:

* avahi-daemon.service, auto-enabled (ln -fs in AVAHI_INSTALL_INIT_SYSTEMD)
* avahi-daemon.socket,
  not auto-enabled, but a dependency of avahi-daemon.service
* avahi-dnsconfd.service, auto-enabled

relative paths. Suggested by Maxime Hadjinlian.]

267dc1c159 modplugtools: Added package
This installs the 'modplug123' command line tool to play tracker music
files (MOD, S3M, XM etc.) using libmodplug.

The modplugtools package can build two players: modplugplay that plays
directly via OSS and modplug123 that plays via libao. Since modplugplay
won't work without OSS support and modern kernels are likely to have no
OSS or OSS emulation, we build only modplug123.

If you have a system without ALSA support for some reason, you can
still use modplug123 to play over OSS via libao.

ffa33dc552 package/.mk files: remove --localstatedir=/var from autotools packages
Remove --localstatedir=/var from all autotools packages where it is no longer
needed.

Also remove --localstatedir=/var/lib/dhcp from package dhcp. localstatedir is
used by dhcp to set the default directory for the leases files. This can also
be done by setting --with-*-lease-file=/var/lib/dhcp/*, which is done in
dhcp.mk.

A custom --localstatedir is left in:
* proftpd.mk
* mysql.mk

This is safe to do:
One of the good thing with autoconf is that if you pass:
        --localstatedir=/var ... --localstatedir=/var/something
Then /var/something will be used. So, we can set --localstatedir=/var
by default in the infrastructure, and still have certain packages doing
weird things override it. [Thanks to Thomas Petazzoni]

b3ed7c2d68 package/pkg-autotools.mk: set --localstatedir=/var by default
`localstatedir` is a common autoconf variable like prefix and sysconfdir. At
this time 25 autotools and one generic package uses this Makefile variable. 22
of the autotools packages use --localstatedir=/var, the remaining use custom

Setting `localstatedir` to /var is consistent with the Filesystem Hierarchy

307df2883e libgtk3: ensure host version of pkg-config is used for native compilation
This already was in Eric's submission, but I removed it when committing
while cleaning up. The package infrastructure already passes the correct
pkg-config to use for cross compilation, but NOT for building native tools,
so we ended up using the target variant and got wrong libraries/headers.

1239610e22 valgrind: add patch to fix build on PowerPC uClibc
uClibc on PowerPC forgot to define some PTRACE_* definitions. Even
though the Buildroot uClibc package has a fix for this, it doesn't fix

PTRACE_GETSIGINFO to the appropriate value on PowerPC when it's not
defined by the C library.

db4919bcac getent: new package
The ecryptfs-utils scripts require the 'getent' program to be
installed to find the home directory of users. However, Buildroot
currently never installs this program, and therefore bug #7142 was
reported, explaining that ecryptfs-utils is not working properly.

In normal Linux systems, the getent program is provided by glibc, and
allows to query not only /etc/passwd, but also other NSS databases
such as LDAP and others.

In the context of Buildroot, this gives us several cases:

 1/ Internal toolchain

    a/ glibc/eglibc. In this case, the getent program is already built
       and installed by Buildroot in the staging directory, so the
       only thing missing is installing it in the target directory.

    b/ uclibc. uClibc provides a simple shell script that emulates the
       behavior of getent. It is located in extra/scripts/getent in
       the uClibc sources, but is currently never installed.

    c/ musl. There seems to be no getent implementation, and musl does
       not support NSS.

 2/ External toolchain

    a/ glibc/eglibc. In several external toolchains that we tested,
       there is a pre-built getent binary available in the sysroot,
       but Buildroot is not installing it to the target.

    b/ uclibc. The getent wrapper script is typically not part of any
       external uClibc toolchain.

    c/ musl. There is no getent implementation.

This patch proposes to solve this problem by introducing a getent
package, which has the following behavior:

 - When the toolchain is glibc based (either internal or external), it
   installs the getent program that was built and installed in the
   staging directory. This covers cases 1/ a/ and 2/ a/ above.

 - When the toolchain is uclibc or musl based, it installs a version
   of uclibc's getent wrapper script that is built into the getent
   package. This script is unlikely to change over time, so having it
   directly built into the package should not cause much issues moving
   forward. This covers all other cases above.

This solution allows to install a NSS-capable getent when glibc/eglibc
is used, and otherwise to rely on uClibc's wrapper script.

420ccbabee uclibc: build uclibc unstripped by default
uClibc can be built stripped (implemented as link-time option in uClibc).
This could be useful for those who build root fs manually.

In Buildroot there is a global strip stage wich strips most of shared libs
in "target" folder (wexcept kernel modules known to not work properly being
stripped and libpthread required to be non-stripped for correct debugging with
gdb of multi-threaded apps).

So there're few problems with current implementation:
 1. uClibc is being stripped 2 times (first on its build stage, second on
    global Buildroot strip stage)
 2. uClibc libs in "staging" folder are also always stripped except if
    "no strip" (BR2_STRIP_none) is explicitly is selected in Buildroot config.
    That makes it possible to remote debug uClibc libs on target only if target
    rootfs was not stripped (which might not be possible due to huge libs
    like Qt)

This patch disables embedded strip in uClibc (still users may modify uClibc
config and explicitly set "DOSTRIP=yes" if really needed).

Interesting that DOSTRIP was not only selected in uClibc config but also was
force set with Buildroot on uClibc configuration step with UCLIBC_STRIP_CONFIG.

Add a new config choice in the system sub-menu that allows the user to

Remove the symlink creation from bash.mk at the same time.

Note: for every shell, we select them, except busybox, on which we

c95bf441a6 package/systemd: fix getty setup
When trying to run a buildroot system configured with
BR2_TARGET_GENERIC_GETTY_PORT="tty1" (x86_64), the boot process hangs
with the following message:
  "A start job is running for dev-tty1.device (<time> / 1min 30s)"

Replacing /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants/serial-getty@tty1.service
(linking to serial-getty@) with getty@tty1.service (-> getty@) fixes the issue.

This patch adds a check that "detects" the tty type by removing digits at the
end of BR2_TARGET_GENERIC_GETTY_PORT and comparing the resulting base name.
An instance of getty@service gets created if the name matches "tty",
otherwise serial-getty@ gets instantiated (as before).

So, tty1,tty2,... are created as links getty@tty1.service -> getty@,
while ttyS0, ttyAMA0, ... are created as instances of serial-getty@.

e2cd2337d7 doc/asciidoc: always use UTC
Currently, the manual is rendered with the timezone of the user running
the rendering. This timezone can fluctuate, depending on the date, due
to DST (Daylight Saving Time). Currently, the manual is rendered in
either CET or CEST (Central European Time, or its DST variant.)

So, a manual rendered during the summer or the winter would refer to a
non-constant timezone. If the machine and/or user doing the rendering
also changes, there is no guarantee the timezone would still be CET/CEST.
This is not a hard issue, since the user can still deduce the time in
UTC, but is just incoherent.

Just force the timezone to be UTC when doing the rendering of the
manual, so we are not dependent on the machine or user doing the
rendering.

d79042bd0b doc/asciidoc: always apply Buildroot's AsciiDoc config
As suggested by Thomas: the AsciiDoc options we use ensure we get a sane
output of the document. We want that configuration to be applied to
other documents as well.

Up until now, it was implicit that the configuration was applied to
our manual, becasue we only supported document-specific configuration,
and the configuration we had was in our manual dir, so we got to use it.

But now, we can render other documents, especially ones from
br2-external, and we want those to also use the default configuration
from Buildroot, but still be able to provide their own customisation.

So, always add Buildroot's configuration first, if available, before we
append the document's configuration.

3c40c9ee57 doc/asciidoc: allow documents to pass a global asciidoc configuration
Currently, a document can specify an output-specific configuration, like
the text output, that hides images references, and formats hyperlinks.

But sometimes it is required that a specific configuration is used for
all the output formats, to always apply the same markup rules in all
documents (like using the [specialwords] section.)

Also look for a file named 'asciidoc.conf' in the document's directory.
If that file exists, add it to the asciidoc options (before the
output-specific config, so the latter takes precedence over the former.)

Ideally, this new file should better go in docs/ rather than in package/ .
However, docs/ is already full of our website stuff, so adding it in
there would just serve to clutter the website.

So, let's just put alongside the other infrastructures, in package/ .

4b0946ad07 vlc: fix build when Qt4 development files are installed on the host
When Qt4 development files are installed on the host, VLC uses
/usr/bin/moc, /usr/bin/uic and /usr/bin/rcc when Qt support is
enabled. However, those host installed versions are not necessarily
compatible with the Qt version used in Buildroot, causes some build
failures.

This commit therefore passes explicit ac_cv_path_MOC, ac_cv_path_RCC
and ac_cv_path_UIC variables to make sure the Qt host tools built by
Buildroot are used.

Note that the VLC configure.ac script uses 'pkg-config
--variable=exec_prefix QtCore' to find the location of such tools, but
this invocation returns /usr. One solution would have been to extend
the pkgconf-01-fix-variable.patch we have against pkgconf to also
cover exec_prefix, but this has more uncertain consequences than just
fixing VLC.

c5c9d0fe1d gcc/gcc-initial: fix build of the AVR32 toolchain
Since we switched to a two stage gcc build process, the AVR32
toolchain stopped building. This is because with such an old gcc
version, we cannot use the all-target-libgcc and install-target-libgcc
targets.

Before the two stage gcc, libgcc was only built in gcc-intermediate,
which carried a similar logic. This commit basically restores in
gcc-initial the logic that used to be in gcc-intermediate, which
consists in using the all-target-libcc and install-target-libgcc
targets only for gcc versions others than the AVR32 one.

Using the BR2_GCC_SUPPORTS_FINEGRAINEDMTUNE option has a way of
distinguishing the old AVR32 compiler from the other gcc versions is a
bit ugly, but it's what was done in gcc-intermediate before. And since
the AVR32 support is due to go away at some point in the hopefully
near future, we don't care that much.

This will fix the build of the two AVR32 defconfig that have been
constantly failing since switching to the two stage gcc process.

b94949efb3 ARC: gcc - fixes for improperly calculated jump/branch offsets
Symptoms usually seen are like that:
--->---
Error: operand out of range (128 is not between -128 and 127)
--->---
where range may differ.

Since compiler tries to use jump/branch instructions with the shortest encoding
of offset it's important to calculate required offset properly.

In case of miscalculation by compiler later assembler throws an error because of
inability to encode requested value.

Fixes are taken from current development branch of GCC for ARC and will be a
part of the next release of ARC tools, so at that point patch should be dropped.

1e2ab06ad7 ser2net: Fix compilation failures due to missing TIOCSRS485 macro
Apply a patch sent upstream to fix a compilation failure present on some
architectures which do not define the TIOCSRS485 macro and do not
include the <asm-generic/ioctls.h> header. This is how the error looks
like:

devcfg.c:781:34: error: 'TIOCSRS485' undeclared (first use in this
function)

cc7da4743e kmod: add patches to support build on RHEL 5
kmod uses certain features not available on older RHEL 5 machines (RedHat
Enterprise Linux). This commit adds two patches to fix that.

Both patches have been proposed upstream, the second one being accepted, the
first rejected with the suggestion to add the patch in Buildroot instead.

65cf9e9291 btrfs-progs: fix build breakage on uClibc without backtrace
uClibc has optional support for backtrace() hence on default
configurations where it's disabled it'll fail.
Add patch to make backtrace support conditional and disable it for
uClibc-based builds since it's mostly for debugging purposes. Fixes:

f268f7131b .mk files: bulk aligment and whitespace cleanup of assignments
The Buildroot coding style defines one space around make assignments and
does not align the assignment symbols.

This patch does a bulk fix of offending packages. The package
infrastructures (or more in general assignments to calculated variable
names, like $(2)_FOO) are not touched.

Alignment of line continuation characters (\) is kept as-is.

The sed command used to do this replacement is:
find * -name "*.mk" | xargs sed -i \
    -e 's#^\([A-Z0-9a-z_]\+\)\s*\([?:+]\?=\)\s*$#\1 \2#'
    -e 's#^\([A-Z0-9a-z_]\+\)\s*\([?:+]\?=\)\s*\([^\\]\+\)$#\1 \2 \3#'
    -e 's#^\([A-Z0-9a-z_]\+\)\s*\([?:+]\?=\)\s*\([^\\ \t]\+\s*\\\)\s*$#\1 \2 \3#'
    -e 's#^\([A-Z0-9a-z_]\+\)\s*\([?:+]\?=\)\(\s*\\\)#\1 \2\3#'

Brief explanation of this command:
    ^\([A-Z0-9a-z_]\+\) a regular variable at the beginning of the line
    \([?:+]\?=\)            any assignment character =, :=, ?=, +=
    \([^\\]\+\) any string not containing a line continuation
    \([^\\ \t]\+\s*\\\) string, optional whitespace, followed by a
                            line continuation character
    \(\s*\\\) optional whitespace, followed by a line
                            continuation character

Hence, the first subexpression handles empty assignments, the second
handles regular assignments, the third handles regular assignments with
line continuation, and the fourth empty assignments with line
continuation.

This expression was tested on following test text: (initial tab not
included)

	FOO     = spaces before
	FOO = spaces before and after
	FOO	= tab before
	FOO = tab and spaces before
	FOO =	tab after
	FOO = tab and spaces after
	FOO = spaces and tab after
	FOO =    \
	FOO = bar \
	FOO = bar space    \
	FOO   =		   \
	GENIMAGE_DEPENDENCIES   = host-pkgconf libconfuse
	FOO     += spaces before
	FOO ?= spaces before and after
	FOO     :=
	FOO     =
	FOO	=
	FOO	  =
	FOO =
	   $(MAKE1) CROSS_COMPILE=$(TARGET_CROSS) -C
	AT91BOOTSTRAP3_DEFCONFIG = \
	AXEL_DISABLE_I18N=--i18n=0

After this bulk change, following manual fixups were done:
- fix line continuation alignment in cegui06 and spice (the sed
  expression leaves the number of whitespace between the value and line
  continuation character intact, but the whitespace before that could have
  changed, causing misalignment.
- qt5base was reverted, as this package uses extensive alignment which
  actually makes the code more readable.

Finally, the end result was manually reviewed.
